Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer in our family. Growing up, it meant one last trip to the Sacramento Delta for waterskiing and lunch at Tinsley Island. In college, we’d celebrate the last three-day weekend until Thanksgiving, bouncing between the beach and the Belly-Up with equal determination. Now, as a family, we embrace the holiday the quintessential American way: smoking up the neighborhood with our charcoal grill.
This Labor Day weekend menu includes all the elements of summer – herb grilled chicken, late-summer bounty and ice-cold beer. End with a peanut butter blondie and maybe even some ice cream. After all, bikini season is behind us!
Rosemary Garlic Grilled Chicken
With my go-to chicken marinade everything’s coming up roses, er, rosemary. Get your grill on with this fool-proof recipe.
Corn Salad with Tomatoes
Celebrate summer’s bountiful crops with this easy-breezy corn salad, perfect for picnics since it’s make-ahead and perfect at room temperature.
Spring Salad with Spinach, Pear and Avocado
Summer salads cool off our palette, and this one is no exception. Made with crisp baby spinach, sweet pears and creamy avocados, this one’s a crowd pleaser.
Peanut Butter M&M Blondies
Satisfy your sweet tooth with this peanut butter blondie decorated with M&M’s. Peanut butter, chocolate, brown sugar…need I say more?
This weekend, our ice chest is packed with our new favorite beer, Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Do you have a favorite beer?
Now that you know what’s on my plate, what are you cooking this weekend? And if you don’t celebrate Labor Day in your country, do you have a similar holiday during the year?
