I love the smells of Christmas. For my family, Christmas has smelled like mulling spices for a long time. In fact, it wasn’t until we went to my friend Skye’s house one year that I realized mulling spices actually had another purpose: mulled wine. But for those times of the day (i.e., any time before 5:00pm) when mulled wine isn’t appropriate, try simmering the spices instead. In minutes your house will smell like Christmas.
In a 3-quart pot, combine 1/2 cup of the spices, a cinnamon stick, a sliced apple and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low and let simmer. You may want to set a timer to remind yourself to check the water levels every now and then. Merry Christmas!

I LOVE mulling spice. So good in apple juice, wine, etc..

Jolene – I think I may have to give it a go in wine. What’s good for the stove top is good for the cook!

Oooh I saw this at T. Joe’s and passed it up thinking I couldn’t mull something. But this sounds easy enough!

Ginger – it’s so easy! I actually embrace my inner bad housekeeper and just keep the pot on the oven top round the clock. I popped it on this morning for a bit to get the smell through the house.
